Matt Dominguez
Matt Dominguez is no stranger to Select UK Radio, after DJ’in for just one year he managed to secure a prime time slot on the show, Fridays 7-9pm. In the months that followed the young Kent DJ became increasingly known by listeners and fellow DJ’s for his main room sound and love for Prog/Tech. Never restricted to a particular genre, style or industry Matt is difficult to pigeonhole and refuses to be tied to one sound.
The young Nightowl resident has played to host some of the world’s most famous clubs including Ministry of Sound & Pacha in addition to smaller more intimate venues such as Hush (Ibiza), Source Bar (Maidstone), Loop/Rehab (Croydon), Friction (Beckenham), Zenon Bar (Bromley), The Crucifix Lane Warehouse and other clubs in and around the south east. Having performed alongside some incredible artists such as Fedde Le Grand, Hardwell, Koen Groeneveld, Bingo Players, Gregor Salto, Thomas Gold, Deniz Koyu, Juan Kidd and others his sets continue to get bigger and bigger. His recent sets have been the biggest so far firstly closing Ministry’s 103 (Main Bar) followed by Pacha main room after Toolroom giant Koen Groeneveld!
2011 saw Matt working in Ibiza for Radio 1 giant Judge Jules! In his time on the Balearic island he had a chance to truly explore new genres of music and push the boundaries on his mixing styles and techniques. Working each week for Judgement Sundays gave him a fantastic chance to see world famous DJ’s in action, watch them performing sets from the booth and speaking to them afterwards. Matt was glued to each set watching the different mixing styles and techniques, the ability to read an audience, the involvement with the crowd and the different platforms/equipment used to perform sets. Having the chance to meet the likes of Eddie Halliwell, Ferry Corsten, Sander Van Doorn, Cosmic Gate and of course the mighty Judge were just a few of the perks of the job!
His genres are vast and range from Deep, Tech House, Techno, Minimal, Progressive, Trance, Electro all the way through to Dubstep. All extremely different but each offering their own characteristics which he brings to each club. When playing to a crowd Matt provides a main room sound, bass heavy tracks with short breakdowns, tech grooves, minimal off beat melodies, big build ups and outrageous drops!
The 23 year old incorporates sounds and styles from a wide collection of his favourite labels such as; Toolroom Records, Definitive Recordings, Hot Natured, Desolat, 1605, Blu Tech, Hideout, Hotfingers, Funk Farm, Abszolut, Saved Records and others. His favourite artists; Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, David Squillace, Koen Groeneveld, Manuel De La Mare, Fedde Le Grand, Adam Beyer.
2012 looks promising for the young Kent DJ with sets already confirmed for Passion, Nightowl, Random and a possible residency in Shoreditch. Off to a great start already his upcoming event for Random @ Source Bar see’s praise from DJ MAG, nominated as February’s top 5 voted events in the South.
